MSC has been trained in the use of the Crash Data Retrieval Tool (CDR Tool) and has the ability to access, preserve, and analyze valuable pre-crash event data from many passenger cars.

Event data can include brake circuit status, airbag deployment status, seatbelt use status, wheel speed, engine RPM, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, and so on. The CDR Tool software supports many General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Lexus, Scion, Isuzu, and Mitsubishi vehicles. Download a comprehensive vehicle coverage list (PDF).

Our consultants have a great deal of experience using CDR Tool. Bill Messerschmidt has participated in CDR validation testing with W. Rusty Haight and was an invited speaker at the First and Second Annual CDR Tool Conferences. Benjamin Smith has performed over 300 CDR downloads. Kevin Jones, while serving as a crash investigator for a NHTSA contractor, received CDR training directly from NHTSA, the National Automotive Sampling System, and the US DOT Traffic Safety Institute; he performed over 300 CDR downloads as part of that NHTSA contract.
