Heavy Vehicles

Most heavy vehicles in North America contain an Engine Control Module (ECM) with an Event Data Recorder (EDR) function. The EDR captures electronic data that can be extremely valuable when investigating a collision or mishap.
MSC has the ability to provide complete downloads, or "images," of the ECM data and EDR data contained in major North American heavy trucks. We provide forensic services in interpreting these electronic crash data.
We also have the ability to peform safe and forensically valid "benchtop" downloads using our "Truck in a Box," which replicates the sensor outputs of most diesel engines and preserves valuable fault data in ECMs.
Our ability to retrieve and analyze electronic crash data is backed by our experience. MSC taught the nation's first comprehensive course on heavy vehicle EDR data. We developed EDR Analytics, the first-ever software program to analyze data from HVEDRs, and we created an informational website on Heavy Vehicle EDRs. In addition, we are involved in ongoing research and have authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers on heavy vehicle EDR data.
