Event Data Recorders

When collisions or mishaps occur, Event Data Recorders (EDRs) and Engine Control Modules (ECMs) are capable of recording extremely valuable electronic crash evidence. All major North American heavy trucks contain this technology. Additionally, the EDRs contained in late-model passenger cars, light trucks, and SUVs store important data about vehicle crashes and pre-crash data.

When handled properly and interpreted correctly, electronic data from heavy vehicles and passenger cars can provide extremely valuable clues about crash-causation and mishap prevention.

MSC has the expertise needed to correctly and completely extract, or "image," electronic crash data directly from the vehicle or by way of a bench download in our offices; read our white paper on proper ECM download methods. We specialize in understanding and interpreting electronic crash data and in communicating our findings clearly.
